Nina Eats an Egg
Often in the past couple of months I’ve thought about writing here - I have a weekly reminder set up to send out a newsletter - and I overlooked it because I had nothing to say. But this evening for whatever reason, I’m in a writerly mood.
The picture above is a drawing, about 2 x 3 feet long, of a friend from college. I took a photo of her eating a boiled egg and turned it into a drawing. In the past year or so, that friend got married, which gave me an excuse to pack up the drawing and send it off, thus de-cluttering my extremely cluttered apartment just a tiny bit.
I also did an oil painting version of the photo. Here it is. (I considered blacking out the friend’s face but figured that would be silly since you can see her face right there in the painting behind her.)
It wasn’t completed, but the buyer picked it up from the gallery show before I could take it back to the studio and finish it. I’ve always wondered since then what became of the painting since I didn’t have a chance to varnish it.
